COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – Just one year after returning to
his alma mater as the Director of Basketball Operations for the
Tennessee Tech men's basketball team, Frank Davis will enter the
2013-14 season in a new role, as a full-time assistant coach.
"I'm beyond excited for the opportunity to come back to where I
played and spent so much time," said Davis. "I'm just extremely
grateful for Coach Payne, Dr. Oldham, Mark Wilson, and everyone who
helped to give me the opportunity to coach here at Tech. These
opportunities are hard to come by and I'm just thankful. I'm really
excited for the upcoming season and can't wait to get on the
court."
A graduate of the class of 2010 with a degree in Exercise Science
and Physical Wellness, Davis began his transition from player to
coach at Piedmont College during the 2010-11 season, before taking
a graduate assistantship in coaching at Lee University during
2011-12.
"Well, any time you can hire a former player," said head coach
Steve Payne, "especially one that represented the program like
Frank Davis did as a both a student and an athlete, you get excited
for what we he can do for the program."
Davis finished out his career at Tech at the top of the all-time
three-point shooting list, having netted 251 buckets from downtown
from 2006-2010. He logged two seasons with a three-point shooting
accuracy of over 40 percent (42.9 percent in 2008-09 and 44.4
percent in 2009-10) and is No. 2 on the list of career games played
with 125.
A standout in the classroom as well, Davis was four times named to
the OVC Commissioner's Honor Roll and earned a spot in Tech's
1,000-point club with 1,118 career points.
"The same things he brought to the table as both a student and an
athlete," added Payne, "he brings as a coach: intelligence, hard
work, and a great relationship with the people around him. I'm
looking forward to watching him grow. He is a young guy that's
ready. I'm excited about Frank Davis' future in coaching and what
he's got to offer here at Tennessee Tech."
Davis is a native of Gainesville, Ga., and completed his master's
degree in education at Tech this past August.
