LEXINGTON, Ky. – It was a tough night at the ballpark for the Tennessee Tech baseball team Tuesday, as the Golden Eagles (25-24) fell in their final midweek tilt of the year at Kentucky (28-23) by a final score of 13-0.

The contest was shortened to seven innings as agreed to by both teams with Kentucky up 13-0. The Wildcats scored in each of the first five frames, using a pair of Tech errors to provide the damage in the first two innings.

Kentucky plated an unearned run off starter Logan Hewitt in the first, serving the Golden Eagle hurler the tough-luck loss after an inning of work on a staff day for the Tech bullpen. In the second, UK got four more unearned runs, taking a 5-0 lead.

Tech got a pair of hits to lead off the second, eventually loading the bases with one out with another knock. The Wildcats ended the threat however, turning a double play to escape the jam.

The Golden Eagle bats were held to just two more hits the rest of the night, with Eric Newsom securing his team-leading second of the game in the seventh. UK scored twice in the third, four times in the fourth, and two more runs in the fifth to take the 13-0 lead.

Frankie Cresta completed an inning out of the bullpen without allowing run, striking out a team-high two. Travis Odom turned in a scoreless sixth frame, surrendering just one hit while punching out one.

The Golden Eagles continue play with a visit to Murray State for their final series against the Racers as OVC rivals and to close out the regular season. Following the series at Murray, Tech will head back to Lexington for the OVC Tournament May 25-28, having already clinched a berth in the postseason event last weekend.
