Tennessee Tech Baseball Midweek Preview (Feb. 28)
COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee Tech baseball team hits the road for a midweek tilt at North Alabama, squaring off with the Lions in a 5:00 p.m. CT tilt at Lane Field in Florence, Ala. The Golden Eagles will look to match their best start to a season since 1970, a campaign that saw a 7-0 mark before the team's first loss.
The match-up could prove to be Tech's first, official midweek game of the year, as last week's affair at No. 16 Tennessee was suspended in the top of the fifth inning due to heavy rain in Knoxville. That contest will be continued at a later date to be determined.
The purple and gold picked up its second weekend sweep of the season Sunday, capturing all three games against Eastern Michigan in Cookeville. Tech outscored the visiting Eagles 37-11, batting .400 while turning in a 3.67 ERA.
Gabe Lacy led Tech with a .667 average and .765 on-base percentage while accounting for 11 of Tech's runs overall. Jason Hinchman produced a team-high eight RBI as part of an 8-for-16 weekend at the plate while Ed Johnson batted .533 with 11 runs of production overall.
Brock Myers secured his third win of the year on Sunday, keeping his unblemished, 0.00 ERA intact while tying for the national lead in victories. He has secured a W in each of his three appearances this season. Peyton Calitri was great on the hill in Friday's start, tossing seven innings with just two runs allowed and five strikeouts.
North Alabama played just one of their five scheduled games last week, with the midweek tilt at No. 4 Vanderbilt postponed due to rain. After defeating Cincinnati 5-2 in their home opener on Friday, the Lions also saw their final three games against the Bearcats all cancelled due to inclement weather.
