Golden Eagle tennis rolls to 7-0 victory over Eastern Illinois

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee Tech Tennis team opened up the final weekend of their regular season with an impressive 7-0 win over Horizon League foe Eastern Illinois in Cookeville on Saturday afternoon.

Evzen Holis and Pol Masafret got things rolling early for Tech with a convincing 6-2 win over the Panthers' Tyler Carlin and Alex Dinkov in the doubles No. 2 slot. EIU (5-14, 1-8 HL) was able to get the better of TTU in the No. 3 spot, with Pau Riera and Antonio Ayerbe Streubel defeating Paulo Ramos Martin and Jaime Paquet by a score of 6-4. However, Mika Berghaus and Elias Grubert managed to secure the doubles point for the Golden Eagles, overcoming Cameron Slabbert and Thomas Wallace 7-5 in a tightly contested No. 1 matchup.

The Golden Eagles (6-13, 6-2 HL) would find even more success during solo action, with the entire Tech lineup soaring to straight set wins. In the No. 1 spot, Mika Berghaus powered past Cameron Slabbert with a 6-2, 6-2 victory, while Elias Grubert took the No. 2 meeting against Pau Riera in a 6-1, 6-4 triumph.

In the No. 3 spot, Evzen Holis defeated Tyler Carlin 6-3, 6-2, and in the No. 4 meeting Paulo Ramos Martin notched a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Alex Dinkov. In the No. 6 affair, Jaime Paquet bested Antonio Ayerbe Streubel in a 6-3, 6-3 decision.

Pol Masafret closed out the day's action, registering a 7-6, 6-1 victory over Thomas Wallace in the No. 5 slot and putting a bow on an undefeated day of singles play for Tennessee Tech.

The Golden Eagles will officially close out the regular season with a Sunday morning meeting at home against Lindenwood. First serve with the Lions is scheduled for 11 a.m. CT. Admission to Tech Tennis Courts is free of charge.
