EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The Tennessee Tech tennis team opened up the month of April in stellar fashion, as the Golden Eagles used a surge at the top of the singles lineup to help pave the way to a 5-2 victory at Southern Indiana in the club's lone match of the week.

Mika Berghaus, Elias Grubert and Evzen Holis all rolled out straight-set wins to pace the purple and gold at the top, with Berghaus notching a 6-3, 6-4 nod over Alfrendo Vogelaar in the No. 1 position, Grubert picking up a 6-3, 6-2 decision against Omar ElSmahy in the No. 2 slot and Holis securing a 6-1, 6-2 triumph over Ruben Emmerson-Hiini in the No. 3 bout. Berghaus' victory extended a season-long five-match singles win streak, the longest successful solo stretch by a Golden Eagle this spring.

Jaime Paquet rounded out Tech's attack behind a 6-2, 6-0 win against Quinten Gillespie in the No. 6 meeting.

The Screaming Eagles (5-12, 1-4 HL) managed to capture the No. 4 and No. 5 get-togethers thanks to a Lucas Sakamaki 6-2, 5-7, 10-6 nod over Pol Masafret in the No. 4 clash and a Yahor Bahdanovich 6-4, 6-3 decision against Paulo Ramos Martin in the No. 5 battle.

The Golden Eagles (4-11, 4-1 HL) kicked off the contest by clinching the doubles point behind wins in two of three matchups. Evzen Holis and Jaime Paquet secured a 7-5 victory over Yahor Bahdanovich in the No. 2 tangle, while Mika Berghaus and Pol Masafret took care of business with a 6-3 win against Quinten Gillespie and Guy Finkelstein in the No. 3 tussle.

USI did register a win in the top spot, with Lucas Sakamaki and Omar ElSamahy earning a 6-4 triumph over Elias Grubert and Paulo Ramos Martin.

A rematch with Southern Indiana is on deck for the purple and gold, as the Golden Eagles will host USI on Saturday, Apr. 8 in the club's next contest. First serve in Cookeville is scheduled for 2 p.m. CT and admission to Tech Tennis Courts is free of charge.
