LYNCHBURG, Va. – With only four available players in the mix, the Tennessee Tech tennis team collected its first point of the season, but ultimately fell 6-1 at Liberty Saturday afternoon.

Despite having to forfeit a doubles matchup with only four Golden Eagles out there, Tech (0-4) still managed to claim the tandem point for the first time this spring. The TTU duo of Elias Grubert and Jaime Paquet picked up a 6-4 triumph over Josh Wilson and Christiaan Worst in the top spot, while Evzen Holis and Pol Masafret also rolled out a 6-4 victory over Luis Felipe Miguel and Dej Thomas-Smith in the No. 2 position to capture the doubles point.

Leading 1-0, the Golden Eagles were unable to find success during singles play with losses in all four completed clashes. The top tangle was the only matchup to go three sets, but when the dust finally settled, Josh Wilson knocked off Elias Grubert behind a 6-0, 6-7 (1-7), 10-7 win.

The Flames (1-1) picked up straight-set nods in the other three battles, with Deji-Thomas-Smith securing a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Evzen Holis in the No. 2 meeting, Christiaan Worst notching a 6-1, 6-2 decision against Jaime Paquet in the No. 3 showdown and Luis Felipe Miguel collecting a 6-1, 6-2 triumph over Pol Masafret in the No. 4 get-together.

The No. 5 and No. 6 solo affairs went down as Liberty victories by default.

Tech will have a brief break in its spring slate, with the next Golden Eagle contest scheduled for Feb. 17 at UNC Asheville.
