INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Playing in its first season as members of the Horizon League, the Tennessee Tech tennis team made a splash in the first portion of the conference's end of the year honors behind the sterling performance of one Golden Eagle in the classroom.

Senior Elias Grubert was recognized on the 2023 Valeo Horizon League Men's Tennis All-Academic Team, one of only seven student-athletes across 11 league teams to secure a spot within the exclusive club. The Parana, Argentina product was one of just three student-athletes on the list from the Horizon League's South Division, joining Belmont's Marko Illic and Southern Indiana's Lucas Sakamaki.

Grubert, who is currently pursuing a master's degree in business administration after receiving his bachelor's degree in finance, is an eight-time member on the Athletic Director's Honor Roll as well as a three-time member on the three-time OVC Commissioner's Honor Roll. Grubert's robust resume led him to a nomination for the coveted Tennessee Tech Athletics Man of the Year honor.

On the courts, the reining OVC Player of the Year and multiple all-conference recipient, is having a stellar senior season that has featured a 5-2 Horizon League solo record, playing as Tech's No. 2 singles competitor.

Grubert and the rest of the purple and gold are gearing up for the final two matches of the regular season, as the Golden Eagles will play host to Eastern Illinois on Saturday and Lindenwood on Sunday in the final homestand of the year. First serve with EIU is scheduled for 1 p.m. CT, while Sunday's clash is slated to start at 11 a.m. Admission to both matches at Tech Tennis Courts is free of charge.
