HOUSTON - Leah Frazier, who played basketball at Tennessee Tech in the 1980s, hosts a weekday radio show on KJOZ 880 am in Houston. True to her school, she is serving this week as the 'radio host' of Golden Eagle football as Tech prepares to face the Cougars Saturday.
On Monday, she spoke at length on her "After the Whistle" program with Golden Eagle head coach Watson Brown. She will host other Tech guests throughout the week, including Golden Eagle players, bringing updates to listeners about the team that will visit town this weekend.
On Friday, Tech president Philip Oldham will spend the entire hour program serving as her co-host. The show airs from 10-11 a.m.
Tennessee Tech has a large contingent of alumni in the Houston area who will have the chance to hear about Golden Eagle football al week, and a full hour with the president to hear about the university on Friday.
"Our alumni in the Houston area are excited about the game, and Leah's radio program will give them added opportunities to hear about Tech and connect with the university," said Tracey Duncan, director of alumni relations. "We're hosting a pregame tailgate event, and other activities, that our alumni are invited to and we're looking forward to visiting with them."
Frazier was a member of the women's basketball team from 1984-87, helping Tech post a combined, four-year record of 40-10 in OVC games. The team won one OVC regular season title with her in the lineup, and advanced to post-season play three times with two NCAA appeareances and one visit to the WNIT.
The programming at KJOZ consists of a wide variety of voices for an equally diverse listening audience. Such broad appeal is evident from the many cutting-edge programs offered. With the national recognition of Yahoo Radio and Yahoo Sports, KJOZ offers an innovative blend of local and national live shows daily including The Trent T. Daniels Morning Show, the Exciting and Informative Chris Walker Show, and "After the Whistle with Coach Leah."
Leah Frazier Dixon, affectionately known as "Coach Leah, the Gym Rat Diva" is the only female commercial media Sports Director in the Houston market. After initial research, it has been determined that Coach Leah is also the only female media Sports Director of any major market nationally.
Coach Leah's multilevel experiences as a player, coach, parent, educator, and athletics executive brings a fresh, fun, comprehensive, and sometimes controversial perspective to Talk Radio.
