Women's Clinic, Kid's Zone and scrimmage featured in annual Gathering of Eagles

Free event Aug. 22 includes Women's Clinic,
Kid's Fun Zone, picnic and scrimmage

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – Football fans are invited to get a glimpse of the future and enjoy a day of tailgate-style activities when Tennessee Tech hosts the annual Gathering of Eagles on Saturday, Aug. 22 in and around Tucker Stadium.

A Women's Clinic and Kid's Fun Zone, added to the schedule two years ago, have been immediate hits with the clinic reaching its limit quickly. This year, in addition to the Women's Clinic, the day's activities also include a Kid's Clinic. The morning events lead up to a free picnic for Golden Eagle football fans and the team's second scrimmage of fall camp, followed by an autograph session and chance for fans to meet the players.

The activities are centered around the Golden Eagle football team's second scrimmage of fall camp. The scrimmage gets underway at 2 p.m. in Tucker Stadium.

Leading up to the scrimmage, Tech is hosting a handful of activities all geared toward fans, young and old, male and female.

From 10:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m., activities will be available in a Kid's Fun Zone featuring inflatibles similar to the gameday tailgate area that fans will find in the 98.5 KISS FM Tailgate Park prior to every Golden Eagle home game. There will also be face-painting, a balloon artist and Tech mascot Awesome Eagle.

Beginnng at 11 a.m., head coach Watson Brown will host Tech's third annual "Now You Know" Women's Football Clinic. The women's clinic is free but space is limited. The first 100 participants to sign-up (by calling 931-372-3940) will receive a specially desiged gift. The participants will also have the opportunity to get out onto the field for a brief skills session. We suggest you wear athletic attire and tennis shoes.

New this year will be a Kid's Clinic, beginning at 11:30 a.m.

Starting at 12:30 p.m. inside the stadium, all fans are invited to join Tech Athletics officials at a picnic including free food and Pepsi products, football posters and schedule cards and other TTU giveaways.

The Golden Eagle football team will kick off its final fall scrimmage at 2 p.m.

Following the scrimmage, every member of the football team will sign posters and meet with fans at tables set up on the track on the East side of the stadium.

One more activity will wrap up the events for the day, as the Golden Eagle volleyball team invites all fans to watch their Purple vs. Gold Scrimmage in Eblen Center, beginning at 4 p.m. The scrimmage, like all of Tech's regular season home matches, is free with autographs with the team to follow.

The Gathering of Eagles is the largest preseason event on tap as the teams gear up for the start of the 2015 season. The volleyball team officially gets things underway Aug. 28-29 at the Wright State Invitational in Dayton, Ohio. For the Golden Eagle football team, the season opener is at the University of Houston on Saturday, Sept. 5. The first home football game is Saturday, Sept. 19 against Mercer.
