COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – Recently members of Tennessee Tech's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee came together for a great cause – providing food for disadvantaged children.
Taking part in the Anna Cooper's Backpack Buddies initiative, the SAAC members pulled together nutritious snack options and helped distribute them to those in need. Through their efforts, 326 bags of nonperishable food items were created and sent out across the area.
The program is named after the late Tech student-athlete who initiated the program in the 2016-17 year and the organization has maintained the project ever since.
Cooper, a nutrition major, saw the need to start the project after seeing food insecurity in the Upper Cumberland area. She passed away this past spring after a cancer battle and the program was renamed and effort continued in her honor.
