DOVER, Del.—Three-year Tech volleyball assistant coach Cassandra Joyner was announced to the 2016 Delaware State Hall-Of-Fame class on May 5.
"It's a great honor to be selected," said Joyner. "It was a complete surprise to be chosen and I am very excited to have the opportunity to go back to Del State. I haven't been back to campus since I graduated, and this is an exceptional reason to return for. It's such a great feeling growing up in Delaware and being able to make a name for myself at a state university. I am very thankful for this recognition and cannot wait to return to campus and see my former coaches in September."
Joyner was one of 10 selected into this year's hall of fame class. Joyner, a 2010 graduate of Delaware State with a major in Psychology, became the school's first player to reach 1,000 kills and ended her career with 1,272 kills to go along with 888 career digs and 310 career blocks; marking herself as the only player in school history to reach 1,000 kills, 800 digs, and 300 career blocks.
Still standing today as the Hornet's all-time kill leader, Joyner was a four-year letterwinner who was twice named to the all-MEAC (Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) first team. Her senior season, Joyner ranked fourth in the MEAC in kills (369) and third in points (458.5).
Joyner was also featured in COBRA magazine, and was an active member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee during her stint at Delaware State. During her collegiate career, she also coached the Delaware Juniors 17-18s club volleyball team in Dover.
Joyner will be honored during Delaware State's annual hall-of-fame ceremony on Sep. 9 at Dover Downs Hotel. The class will also be recognized during the Hornets' 2016 football home opener against Monmouth the following day.
