COOKEVILLE, Tenn.—It's postseason time! The Tennessee Tech volleyball team (9-20, 7-9 OVC) heads to the Ohio Valley Conference (OVC) tournament at Murray State on Thursday at the sixth seed to compete against Eastern Illinois (EIU, 16-14, 11-5 OVC) (the number three seed) in the first round at 11 a.m.
When the Golden Eagles battled against the Panthers earlier this season it was each team's first conference match-up. EIU saw victory over Tech in three sets (3-0) taking winning set scores of 25-14, 26-24, and 25-15.
The Panthers outhit the Golden Eagles .340 to .132, as well as out-blocked (7-3) and out-dug (51-34) the Tech team.
In the matchup, Kayla Nesbitt and Allie Hueston led the Panthers. Nesbitt put up a team-high 11 kills, while Hueston posted 10 kills for EIU. Now leading the way for the Panthers is Chelsea Lee. On the season, Lee has tallied 322 kills (3.01 per set), 81 digs (0.76 per set), and 33 blocks (0.31 per set). Hueston falls second in kill total for EIU, chalking up 285 (2.28 per set), while also gathering 25 service aces, 79 digs, and 104 blocks thus far.
Golden Eagle senior, Cody Dodd put up the game-high 17 kills in the match against the Panthers, while teammate Anderson had 26 assists. Dodd has now gathered an impressive 474 kills (4.31 per set), 325 digs (2.95 per set), 64 blocks (0.58 per set), and 50 service aces (0.45 per set) on the season to lead Tech. Anderson has tallied 989 (9.42 per set) assists this season, while also posting 286 digs (2.72 per set) and 26 service aces (0.25 per set).
