Golden Eagles travel to Kentucky for EKU and Morehead matchups

COOKEVILLE, Tenn.—A week of practice is all that separates the Tennessee Tech volleyball team (5-16, 3-5 OVC) from rematching Eastern Kentucky (EKU) (5-18, 3-4 OVC) and Morehead State (7-15, 4-4 OVC). Last weekend, the Golden Eagles hosted the Colonels and Eagles, and now this weekend the Tech team will travel to Richmond and Morehead, Ky. to play EKU and Morehead State on their turf. 

In last week's match with the Colonels, Eastern Kentucky came out on top in a four-set match (3-1). The Colonels took winning set scores of 25-18, 16-25, 25-21, and 25-17 over the Golden Eagles. Rachel Vick led EKU in last week's contest putting up 14 kills, a .303 hitting percentage, and three service aces. Also dominant on the Colonel force was Celina Sanks who tallied 10 kills, a .200 hitting percentage, and 13 digs. For Tech, Cody Dodd led the way in the match. Dodd totaled 19 kills, 11 digs, and two service aces in the match.  Teammates Sharon Anderson put up 39 assists, two service aces, and 10 digs, while Kellie Williams had 11 kills and three blocks in the match. As a team, the Colonels out hit the Golden Eagles .187 to .176, however Tech gathered more digs (66-61) and put up more blocks (9-6) in the matchup. 

For the match against the Eagles last week, the Golden Eagles saw victory over Morehead winning in a four-set match (3-1) with set scores of 25-18, 18-25, 25-21, and 25-17. For the Eagles, Meredith Jewell was a key player in the match. Jewell collected 11 kills, 17 digs and two blocks. Teammate Hannah Sigala also played an important role on the Morehead team gathering 13 kills, a .650 hitting percentage, and five blocks in the contest. For Tech, Williams took the reigns and led the team with 15 kills and a .282 hitting percentage. Dodd had 13 kills and 10 digs in the match, while fellow Golden Eagle Alyssa Povey tallied 11 kills and five blocks. Tech out hit Morehead .203 to .164 in their matchup, whereas the Eagles out blocked (10-6) and out dug (60-58) the Golden Eagles.

Match play for Tech this weekend will get underway on Friday when the Golden Eagles take on EKU in a 6 p.m. contest at the Alumni Coliseum.  Then on Saturday, Tech and Morehead State will compete in a 1 p.m. match at the Wetherby Gym.
