Brown, defense shuts out Jax State, leads Tech soccer team to 0-0 tie

JACKSONVILLE, Ala. – The Tennessee Tech soccer team played the role of spoiler at Jacksonville State's homecoming weekend Sunday afternoon, forcing the Gamecocks to a 0-0 draw after two extra periods could not decide a winner.

The Golden Eagles moved to 3-10-1 overall and 1-3-1 in Ohio Valley Conference play while Jax State fell to 4-9-2, 0-5-1.

Jordan Brown recorded her third shutout of the year in the event, making an impressive 10 saves in the affair to pad her OVC lead in the stops department to 15. She has made 99 saves in the 2013 season and the 10-stop day was her fourth double-digit save effort of the season.

Tech mustered up six shots-on-goal against the Gamecocks, including two each from junior defender Katie Phillips and sophomore midfielder Taylor Sutton.

The Golden Eagle defense played incredible for all 110 minutes, even with the Gamecocks owning a 25-12 shot advantage in the contest.

The tie marks the first for the Golden Eagles in over a year with the last one occurring on Sept. 2, 2011 against Louisiana Tech.

The Tech squad will return to the pitch Friday for a home contest with defending OVC Champions UT Martin. The match will begin at 3 p.m. CDT and will be streamed live on the OVC Digital Network.
