Tech women's golf team concludes action at Kiawah Island Classic

KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. – The Tennessee Tech women's golf team wrapped up play at the Kiawah Island Classic Tuesday afternoon, finishing the largest collegiate golf tournament in the nation in a tie for 38th place among the 53 teams in contention.

The Golden Eagles shaved one stroke off their Monday total, posting a 307 to complete the week with a 934 overall total to tie with Winthrop. Host College of Charleston won its annual event, firing a tournament-low 278 to finish at 860 overall and six strokes ahead of runner-up FGCU.

Turning in the low score of the day for the purple and gold was freshman Katrine Toennessen, who carded a 3-over 75 to finish with a 237. She tied for 164th overall with senior Arianna Clemmer, who tallied a 79 on the day.

Sophomore Heidi Lawson finished at the top of the leaderboard for the Golden Eagles for the week, coming in at 228 overall to tie for 96th among the field of the 264. The Kodak, Tenn. native finished with a 76 in her third and final round.

Next among the Tech participants, junior Hannah Bratton carded a third-round 77 to tie for 131st with a 232. Rounding out the lineup for the purple and gold was fellow junior Isabel York. She compiled an 85 for a 258 final score.

College of Charleston's Emily Dunlap and Jacksonville's Maia Samuelson tied for individual medalist honors, each totaling a 209 for the week.

Tech will return to action Sunday, Mar. 15, kicking off the Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate in Sevierville, Tenn. The Golden Eagles' annual event will enter its eighth-straight year of competing at the Highlands Course at Sevierville Golf Club. The three-day event will run through Tuesday, Mar. 17.
