Tech women's golf team claims seventh place showing at Dayton Flyer Invitational

KETTERING, Ohio. – Improved play on day two led the Tennessee Tech women's golf team up a position on the leaderboard to close out the Dayton Flyer Invitational Tuesday afternoon, finishing seventh overall among the 14 teams in competition at the North Course of the NCR Country Club.

The Golden Eagles cut 10 strokes from their first-day total of 319, capturing a 309 in round two to finish with a 628. The purple and gold edged Ohio by two shots for seventh place while Butler claimed the tournament title with a score of 605.

Sophomore Heidi Lawson was the lead performer for the Golden Eagles at the conclusion of the event, tying for 22nd overall in the field of 84 golfers. She turned in a 76 in round two, claiming a 155 overall for the two-day event.

Next among the Golden Eagles in competition was Katrine Toennessen, a native of Grimstad, Norway. The freshman tied for 25th while sports scores of 76 and 80 for a 156. She ranked second overall in the field in par-3 scoring for the week, finishing 1-over.

Fellow rookie Gittle Sciolis enjoyed a huge improvement from day one, cutting seven shots off her first attempt around the course to post a team-best 75 in round two. Her 157 ranked her in a tie for 32nd overall. The freshman totaled five birdies through 36 holes, the second most of the whole field.

Junior Hanna Bratton also shaved a large total of shots from her first effort on the course, presenting a 78 after a first-round 90 for a 168. She tied for 65th overall, just one shot of the final Golden Eagle in action, Makenzie Morton. A native of Sparta, Morton completed her first collegiate event with scores of 82 and 87 for a 169.

It was Ohio State's Sofia Seldemirova, competing as an individual, who took home medalist honors, totaling a 3-over 143.

Tech will get one week away from the links before returning to action on Monday, Oct. 28 at the Town and Country Invitational hosted by Tennessee State at McCabe Golf Course in Nashville.
