Tech women's golf team kicks off spring campaign at Kiawah Island Classic

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee Tech women's golf team kicks off the spring campaign with its annual trip to Kiawah Island, S.C. for the Kiawah Island Classic. Play will feature 54 holes beginning Sunday, Mar. 1.

KIAWAH ISLAND CLASSIC: Mar. 1-3, 2020 – 54 holes (18 Sunday, 18 Monday, 18 Tuesday), located at the par-72, 5,984-yard Osprey Point Course and par-72, 5,977-yard Oak Point Course at Kiawah Island Golf Resort in Kiawah Island, S.C. After 36 holes of play, the Top-26 teams will play for the championship at Osprey Point during the final round, while teams 27-53 will play for a flight championship at Oak Point. Teams will tee off in waves each day, with the morning group heading off at 7:45 a.m. CT and the afternoon crew kicking off action at 12:30 p.m.

GOLDEN EAGLE LINEUP: Competing for the Golden Eagles are sophomore Heidi Lawson, junior Hannah Bratton, freshman Katrine Toennessen, junior Isabel York and senior Arianna Clemmer.

THE COMPETITION: The 53-team field consists of host two teams from host College of Charleston, as well as, Alabama State, Austin Peay, Bethune-Cookman, Boston University, Bucknell, Charleston Southern, Dayton, Delaware, Elon, Fairfield, Fairleigh Dickinson, Florida Gulf Coast, Hampton, High Point, Hofstra, Indiana State, IUPUI, Jacksonville, Jacksonville State, James Madison, Lipscomb, Longwood, Merrimack College, Missouri State, Monmouth, Murray State, Navy, North Alabama, Oakland, Omaha, Oral Roberts, Presbyterian , Radford, Quinnipiac, Sacred Heart, Samford, SCAD – Savannah, Saint Francis, Stetson, Tennessee Tech, Towson, The Citadel, UT Arlington, UNC Asheville, UNCG, USC Upstate, Western Carolina, William & Mary, Winthrop, Wofford and Youngstown State.

THOUGHTS FROM HEAD COACH POLK BROWN: "The first event of the spring is finally here, and we could not be more excited to get down to Kiawah Island to compete. The Kiawah Island Classic is one of our favorite events we play, and we look forward to competing with over 50 other teams in the biggest field in collegiate golf. Both Oak Point and Osprey Point courses are fantastic venues, and the women have been hard at work in the preparation for this tournament. We are looking forward to the challenge."

WHAT TO WATCH FOR: This marks the fifth-straight year the Golden Eagles will compete in the Kiawah Island Classic, the largest collegiate golf tournament in the country. The 2020 edition of the event has expanded from 48 teams to 53 in this year's field and will be played for the sixth time in its history at Osprey Point at the Kiawah Island Golf Resort on Kiawah Island, S.C.
