Lawson notches All-Tournament honors, Tech places fourth at MSU Greenbrier Invitational

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Tennessee Tech women's golf team earned a top-five finish at its first tournament of the year, placing fourth among a field of nine at the MSU Greenbrier Invitational Tuesday afternoon.

The Golden Eagles, who posted score of 314 and 307 on Monday, worked Greenbrier Country Club to the tune of a 310 in the last round of action. The team's 931 led to a healthy lead over host Morehead State for fourth place, besting the Eagles by 14 shots.

It was Heidi Lawson (pictured right) who found her name at the top of the leaderboard for the purple and gold, earning her first career All-Tournament nod with a fourth-place, individual finish. The sophomore shot a 3-over 75 on Tuesday to finish with a 222 and top-five showing among the field of 54 golfers.

Joining Lawson with a 3-over 75 on the day was junior Hannah Bratton (pictured above). The Jackson, Tenn. native wrapped up play with a final score of 230, tying for 12th overall to clinch the best finish of career so far. Fellow third-year Kate Mashburn ranked 20th for the event, carding an 82-76-77=235.

Completing her first collegiate round, Katrine Toennessen tied for 32nd overall. The native of Grimstad, Norway became the first international golfer in program history to compete for the Golden Eagles, turning in a third-round 83 to finish with a 244 overall.

Rounding out play for the purple and gold was junior Isabel York. The veteran also compiled an 83 on the day, finishing in a tie for 43rd with a collective 255.

Lipscomb took home the tournament title with a team score of 908 while Belmont and Austin Peay rounded out the top three. Belmont's Julia Nittoli claimed individual medalist honors after sporting a 217.
