COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – There is no question how much culture means to the Tennessee Tech women's basketball program. It only makes sense to bring in players that portray your team's core values and players that can help take your program to the next level.

Tech head coach Kim Rosamond and her staff certainly found that fit with their latest signee in 5-foot-8 guard Peyton Carter from Abingdon, Va.

"Peyton Carter fits everything our program stands for both on and off the court," Rosamond expressed. "Her energy and competitiveness are contagious. In our program, we believe the person is what makes the player, and we hit the jackpot in both categories with Peyton."

Carter has had a prolific prep career at Abingdon High School under coach Jimmy Brown. She helped lead the Lady Falcons to a regional championship during her sophomore season, and helped the Falcons to an 18-9 record during the 2018-2019 campaign.

The future Golden Eagle has earned numerous accolades in her time at AHS, claiming All-District First Team and All-Region First Team honors during her sophomore and junior seasons. During the 2018-2019 season, she was also voted her district's Player of the Year.

Selected to the Virginia High School Coaches Association First Team, she broke the Abingdon school record for most points scored in a game with 42.

"Peyton is one of those special players that you want on your team," Rosamond added. "She is a great teammate and makes everyone around her better. Peyton is a winner and her love for the game is evident when you watch her play. She is a lefty, long-range threat from anywhere on the floor, but her ability to create off the dribble for herself and her teammates makes her an extremely tough matchup."

When Carter made her trip to the Tech campus, the choice was clear.

"It just felt like home," she said.

Carter also competed at a high level on the summer circuit while playing for the Nautilus Express organization under the tutelage of Justin Wimmer, who has numerous former players excelling at the next level.

A committed student-athlete, Carter holds a 3.92 GPA and is a member of the National Honor Society.

"Peyton's winning attitude on and off the floor is what attracted us to her when we first saw her play," Rosamond said. "She is one of those players you just want to coach. She excels in everything she pursues and will be a fan favorite in the Hooper Eblen Center."

Carter is the first signee of the highly anticipated 2020 Golden Eagle recruiting class. To keep up with the class and all things Tennessee Tech women's basketball, visit TTUSports.com or follow the Golden Eagles on Twitter (@TTU_WBB), Facebook (/TennesseeTechWBB) and Instagram (ttuwbb).
