COOKEVILLE, Tenn.—The Tennessee Tech track and field team continued their success from day one over to day two at the Weems Baskin Invitational under host University of South Carolina. Na'Asha Robinson claimed a second place finish in the 400-meter with a time of 52.81. N. Robinson clocked in just .11 seconds shy of the lead runner from ASICS, and beat out runners from schools of South Carolina, Virginia Tech, Tennessee State, Savannah State, Alabama State and Charleston Southern. Her time ranks third in the county, second in the South Region, and first in the OVC. N. Robinson also placed fourth in a field of 83 participants in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.56, topping her former school record of 23.78 in the process.
"Tech had a very productive day, we accomplished a lot," head coach Wayne Angel said. "I was impressed with Na'Asha's time today, she came within a hair of breaking the school record. As a team we had many personal bests and I am very pleased with where we are as a team. We are definitely moving in the right direction."
Sarah Brandt claimed an eighth place finish in the 800-meter with a time of 2:15.37, while teammate Madison Stremler placed right behind her in ninth with a 2:15.46 mark. D'Airrien Jackson placed 18th in the even with a time of 2:21.21.
Sharnique Leonce placed 10th in the 100-meter hurdles recording a time of 14.19, just .02 seconds shy of Tennessee State's runner Crystal Williams. Teammate Eshe' Robinson placed 33rd in the race, recording a time of 16.28.
Leonce also placed 22nd in the 100-meter with a time of 12.21, while Raven Smith placed third in the triple jump with a 12.01-meter leap. Crystal Liebenberg placed 23rd in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:05.94, while NaScottisha Drummond placed sixth in the high jump with a 1.63-meter jump. Andrea Retano placed 13th in the 800-meter open with a time of 2:27.28, while teammate Anna Cooper placed 16th with a time of 2:28.74.
The Purple and Gold squad will return to action on April 6-7, when they travel to Bowling Green, Ky., to compete at the Hilltopper Relays.
