COOKEVILLE, Tenn.—The Tennessee Tech track and field team is ready to kick off the New Year at the Gene Edmonds Open in West Lafayette, Ind., on Saturday.
15 Golden Eagles will travel to this weekend's meet, including three reigning OVC titleholders: Na'Asha Robinson, D'Airrien Jackson, and Sarah Brandt.
Tech will place entries in Saturday's meet in the mile, 800-meter, 4x4, 200-meter, high jump, 600-meter, 60-meter, 3,000-meter, shot put, long jump, 60-meter high hurdles, and the triple jump.
In their first meet this year, N. Robinson and Micayla Rennick broke school records at the Vanderbilt Opener Invitational; kicking off the season on a high note. N. Robinson claimed first place in the 200-meter with a time of 24.00 in a field of 53 runners, which topped the former Golden Eagle record; while Rennick smashed the former school record in the mile with a time 4:54.06 placing second overall in the race.
Festivities will begin at 11 a.m. on Saturday at the Lambert Fieldhouse on Purdue University's campus and are expected to conclude around 5:30 p.m. that day.
