Meyo Invitational Day One Results
SOUTH BEND, Ind.—The Tennessee Tech track and field team continued their record breaking success at the Meyo Invitational on Friday. The Golden Eagles opened day one of the meet on a high-note with a school record shattering performance in the distance medley relay. The quad of Micayla Rennick, D'Airrien Jackson, Na'Asha Robinson, and Sarah Brandt claimed a fifth place finish (out of 20) in the race, beating out teams from schools of Michigan State, Ohio State, Notre Dame, Purdue, Georgia Tech, Vanderbilt, and OVC opponent Eastern Illinois University. The group's time of 11:35.22 not only topped the Tech school record, but it also shattered the Ohio Valley Conference record, which was previously held by Eastern Kentucky's Julie Mathisen, Megan Kiley, Carina Schrempf, and Charlotte Imer with a time of 11:53.75.
"I'm really proud of our performances today," head coach Wayne Angel said. "We had some phenomenal record breaking performances and really rose to the occasion against these big-time schools. I look forward to see what they will do tomorrow."
To continue to highlight day one's action, Sharnique Leonce claimed a school record, as well, in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.73, which beat out former Golden Eagle's Carmen Tucker's record of 9.21.
The Golden Eagles look to continue success on Saturday when they return to the track at 9 a.m. at the University of Notre Dame.
