Golden Eagles closed out day two at Indiana University Relays

Bloomington, Ind.—The Tennessee Tech track and field team closed out day two of the Indiana University Relays picking up right where they left off after day one.

"I was very pleased with our performance today," head coach Wayne Angel remarked. "We competed with a lot of confidence and heart. Overall, I thought that we had a very productive meet as a team."

Na'Asha Robinson claimed another first place finish on day two, this time in the 400-meter dash, beating out all 29 other participants with a time of 54.62. Teammate D'Airrien Jackson placed third in the race, just 1.02 seconds behind the second-place runner from Louisville with a time of 56.27.

Sharnique Leonce placed third in the pentathlon, receiving 3,466 points. She recorded times of 9.02 in the 60-meter hurdles and 2:33.11 in the 800-meter run, while recording a 1.61-meter high jump, 5.31-meter long jump, and 9.77-meter shot put.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Friday-Saturday, Feb. 3-4, when they travel to South Bend, Ind., to compete at the Meyo Invitational at the University of Notre Dame.

On day one of the meet, Newcomer Micayla Rennick smashed another Golden Eagle school record in the 5,000-meter race with a time of 17:04.23. Her time not only clocked in six seconds faster than the next runner from Southeast Missouri, but it also topped former Tech track star's Stephanie Place's school record time of 17:36.63, which she established in February of 2008 at the TSU Invitational. 

Na'Asha Robinson and D'Airrien Jackson had a phenomenal showing for the Golden Eagles as well. N. Robinson beat out all other runners in the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.24, while Jackson came in just shortly behind her placing second with a 24.63 mark.

The Golden Eagles return to the track tomorrow morning at 9:20 a.m. to close out competition at the Gladstein Fieldhouse.
