Cookeville, Tenn.—The Tennessee Tech track and field team kicked off day one of their outdoor season at the Weems Baskin Invitational.
The Golden Eagles started off strong, with Micayla Rennick claiming a first place finish in the 3K steeplechase with a time of 11:13.66; her first time competing in the event. Rennick's mark also set a new school record, smashing the former record held by Rebecca Cline of 11:20.03, set in the 2014 season. Her time is also the best in the OVC, 11th in the South Region, and 24th in the country. Teammate Purity Murray clocked in second in the race with a time of 11:49.52.
Sharnique Leonce also set a Tech school record in the long jump with a 5.68-meter leap, which placed her second in the meet.
Antonia Susnjar placed ninth in javelin with a 34.77-meter throw, while teammate Leonce placed fourth in the javelin throw open with a 31.56-meter mark. Eshe Robinson placed 39th in the 100-meter open with a time of 13.70, while teammate Brittany McGee clocked in 43rd with a 15.73 mark.
The Golden Eagles will continue action at the Weems Baskin Invitational on Saturday, with festivities again beginning at 10 a.m. CT.
