Tech Track Shaves Off Seconds at Boston-Moon Classic

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Rebecca Cline posted both of Tennessee Tech's first-place finishes at the Boston-Moon Invitational this past Saturday, taking the top spot in the 5,000m race and in her first career attempt at the 3,000m steeplechase event. Cline recorded a time of 19:56.24 in the 5,000 while her 14:31.96 in the steeplechase was over a minute faster than her opponent.

Leah Bradley set personal records in the 800m and 1,500m runs for the second consecutive week. She hit a 2:23.93 mark in the 800 and shaved nearly two seconds off of her 1,500 time with a 4:57.09, which worked for second place. Teammate Kara Webb took third place on the heels of Bradley with a time of 5:00.32, a new PR of her own.

Cline also competed in the 1,500, posting a fifth-place time of 5:18.63 to give the Golden Eagles three of the event's top five finishes. Four other Golden Eagles competed in the 1,500 and all finished in the top 10. Brittney Brown broke a personal record with her 5:31.26 finish in the event.

Kathryn Forbes was the only other TTU runner in the 5,000, taking third place with a time of 20:49.48.

The Golden Eagles had five runners in the 400m event with Dalis Connell clocking a 1:01.92 for a new personal best. Nine runners competed in the 800 in total. In addition to Bradley, Brown clocked a PR with a 2:47.31 finish.

In field events, Kate Lowery vaulted 9-11.75 to take second place in the pole vault while Madison Borden posted a second-place finish in the discus throw, hurling the disc 127-03. Lacy Islas took fourth place in the open discus with a throw of 116-04 and third in the javelin throw with a personal best throw of 99-04. Borden also took fourth in the shot put with a toss of 36-8.25.

Kelli Keck finished sixth in the long jump with a career-best 16-08.50 jump. Keck also competed in the triple jump, finishing fifth with a lead of 35-07.25, and raced in the 200m dash for the first time this outdoor season. Her time of 26.57 was a team best in that event and worked for a top 10 finish.

Justine Phillips beat her latest PR in the 200m dash, set last week at Austin Peay. Phillips took .11 seconds off her time for a 26.77 mark in the race. Elisa Tanksley also clocked a PR in the 200, shaving nearly a full second off last week's time at Vanderbilt for a time of 27.92.

Three Golden Eagles also participated in the Sea Ray Relays at Tennessee on Friday, April 13. Borden threw the disc 116-05 for a 10th place finish, while Lacy Yslas finished 11th with a 110-10 throw. Meghan O'Donoghue raced in the 10,000m and set a new personal record with a 41:32.62 finish.
