Tech sees 14 personal marks fall at Austin Peay Invitational

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee Track & Field team established 14 new personal best marks Saturday at the Austin Peay Invitational, with six of those coming in a single event.

Lacy Yslas, a junior from Sparta, Tenn., earned the only first-place showing of the day for Tech. She placed first in the javelin with a personal-best of 92 feet, seven inches. She was also second in the discus and fourth in the shot put.

Tech had six different middle distance runners clock their personal best efforts in the 800-meter run during the meet. A total of 12 different Golden Eagles posted a personal best, while Justine Phillips and Leah Bradley each recorded two personal records.

A junior from Lake City, Tenn., Phillips placed second in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.79, just .01 off the winning time. She also had a personal best in the 200-meter dash with a time of 26.88.

Bradley's PRs came in the 800-meter run in 2:24.61, and in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:59.41. The senior from McDonough, Ga., placed third in both events.

Kelli Keck, a sophomore from Crossville, Tenn., placed second in both the long jump (16 feet, 1 ¾ inches) and triple jump (34 feet, 11 inches), and posted a personal best in the 200-meter dash in 26.47.

Brittany Cotto, a sophomore from Sacramento, Calif., had the other PR in the sprint events, lace fourth in the 400-meter dash in 1:00.5.

The 800-meter field was loaded with nine Golden Eagles and six of them crossed the finish line in their fastest time. Emily Weinzetl, a senior from San Antonio, Texas, led the way with a second-place finish and a time of 2:23.86.  Bradley was next, followed by Jena Philpott (2:25.73) in fourth place. Other PRs came from freshmen Kara Webb and Kendale Caldwell, and sophomore Dalis Connell.

Bradley's PR in the 1,500-meter run landed her third in the field, while sophomore Rebecca Cline placed fourth with a PR of 5:03.84.

In the longest run of the day, junior Kathryn Forbes finished seventh in the 3,000-meter run with a PR of 11:40.68. Cline placed second while Meghan O'Donoghue was fifth.

In the field events, in addition to the two second-place jumps by Keck, Tech had  a third-place finish in the pole vault by juior Katie Lowery, who cleared 9 feet, 5 ¾ inches.

Madison Borden, a junior from Louisville, Tenn., placed second in the shot put and third in the discus.

The Golden Eagles have a couple of events on tap for next weekend. Some team members will be in Knoxville for the Sea Ray Relays beginning Friday, while most of the team will head to Nashville for the Boston-Moon Classic at Tennessee State University on Saturday.
