Meet features competition from across South

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee Tech track and field team springs into action this weekend with its first indoor meet of the 2012 season at East Tennessee State.

The Niswonger Collegiate Invitational, which begins Friday and runs through Saturday in Johnson City, Tenn., serves as the first of two meets in which the Golden Eagles will compete prior to the OVC Indoor Championships on Feb. 24-25. 

The meet is a large one, featuring competition from across the South, including Ohio Valley Conference foe Austin Peay.

Tech will take 21 athletes to the meet including Brooklyn Kimball (60m, 200m), Brittany Cotto (200m), Elisa Tanksley (200m, 400m), Dalis Connell (400m, 800m), Leah Bradley (800m, mile), Kendale Caldwell (800m), Traci Jones (800m, mile), Elizabeth Mitchell (800m), Jenna Philpott (800m), Emily Weinzetl (800m), Brittney Brown (mile), Kathryn Forbes (mile), Kara Webb (mile), Emily Williams (mile), Katie Lowery (pole vault), Kelli Keck (long jump), Madison Borden (shot put), Harley Roach (shot put), Lacy Yslas (shot put), Meghan O’Donoghue (5,000m) and Beth Miller (5,000m).

Tech will also field four relay teams, two in both the distance medley relay and the 4x400 meter relay. The team of Jones, Weinzetl, Bradley and Webb will compete in the distance medley as will Mitchell, Connell, Philpott and Williams.

Competing in the 4x400 for the Golden Eagles will be a team of Cotto, Connell, Philpott and Weinzetl as well as a squad of Tanksley, Mitchell, Caldwell and Kimball.

Seven members of the Golden Eagle men’s cross country team will run unattached in the 5,000 meter, distance medley relay and mile.

The Niswonger Invitational begins at 10 a.m. Friday and 8 a.m. Saturday. Results will be posted on TTUSports.com after the competition.
