Heatherly tied for second, Golden Eagles fifth at OVC Championships

DICKSON, Tenn. -- Jake Heatherly has jumped into a tie for second place and Tennessee Tech maintained its spot in the middle of the standings in fifth place as the nine tams head to Wednesday's final round of the 2010 Ohio Valley Conference men's golf championships.

Heatherly is one-over par after 36 holes, putting him three shots off the lead as the teams prepare for 18 holes at GreyStone Golf Club to wrap up the tournament.

Murray State slipped by nine shots from its strong opening round, but the Racers actually widened their lead in the team standings from eight to 12 shots. MSU is at seven-over 581 while Austin eay is in second place at 593. Jacksonville State (594) held onto a tie for third place with Morehead State (594), which slipped ahead of Tech on Tuesday with a 293, the best team total of the day.

The Golden Eagles (597) are fifth, followed by UT Martin (599), which opened play Tuesday in second place. It continues to be a real logjam from the middle of the standings down, with Eastern Kentucky (601) seventh, Tennessee State (602) eighth and Eastern Illinois (609) ninth.

Murray State's Nick Newcombe posted the low round of the tourney on Tuesday with a 69, vaulting into the individual lead at two-under 142. Heatherly, Erik Barnes of Austin Peay and Jared Wolfe of Murray State are all tied for second place, three shots back at 145. Heatherly followed his 73 Monday with and even-par 72 Tuesday.

Josh Simer, whjo opened the day tied for third after a 71 Monday, slipped to a 76 and is tied for 10th place at 147. Next on the leaderboard for coach Craig King's Golden Eagles, Preston Marshall is tied for 23rd place at 151, shooting a 75 Tuedat after a 76 Monday.

Wes Korth (pictured), who has posted identical rounds of 77, is tied for 32nd place at 154, while Blake Garrison is in a tie for 43 spot at 161 with rounds of 81 and 80.
