JACKSONVILLE, Ala. – Sophomore Tyler Cassetty had the best
round of the day for Tennessee Tech Monday, but his score
won’t help the Golden Eagle golf team – he’s
competing as an individual.
The Golden Eagles struggled Monday in the first round of the Grub
Mart/Young Oil Intercollegiate, being hosted by Jacksonville State.
The Golden Eagles shot a 319 team total and are in 14th place among
the 15 teams in the tournament.
Cassetty is tied for 18th place individually after shooting
two-over 74.
The leader in Tech’s lineup is Jared Dunn, with a five-over
77, putting him in a tie for 39th place. Following him for the
Golden Eagles are Wes Korth (79), Greyson Painter (81), Jake
Heatherly (82) and Calvin Clark (86).
Jacksonville State and Presbyterian College are tied for first
place after a one-over 289 at the Par 72, 6989-yard Silver Lakes
Golf Course on the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail.
Austin Peay is one stroke back in fourth place with two over 290
followed by Columbus State with a nine-over 297. Stetson and
Samford are in sixth and seventh with 300 and 301, while High Point
(304), IUPUI (306), UT Martin (307) and Armstrong Atlantic State
(307) round out the top 10. Birmingham-Southern (310), Morehead
State (314), Tennessee Tech (319), and IUPUI-B make up the bottom
of the leader board.
The Tournament was scheduled for 54-holes with 36 holes planned for
Monday but the tournament is now shortened to 36-hole when wet
course conditions forced round two to be cancelled. Final round
action is set to begin at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
