BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Following a second place finish two weeks
ago at the Murray State Invitational, the Tennessee Tech women's
golf team returns to action this Monday and Tuesday at the 54-hole
Samford Intercollegiate. The event will be held at the 6,000-yard,
par 72 Limestone Springs Golf Club in Oneonta, Ala.
The Tech men's squad also gets back into action Monday and Tuesday
at the Grub Mart/Young Oil Invitational, hosted by Jcksonville
State University, at the Silver Lakes Golf Club in
Jacksonville.
The Tech women and 14 other teams in the field played their
practice round Sunday morning, and will open play with 36 holes
Monday with a 9 a.m. shotgun start. All of the players will ride in
carts on Monday to speed play through the two rounds. On Tuesday,
they will walk the course for the final 18 holes, beginning at 8:30
a.m.
Five veteran players will be in the lineup for first-year coach
Brandy Stout. Tech's lineup will include seniors Madison Denman and
Ashley Spangler, juniors Megan Bradford and Diana Carson, and
sophomore Carley Rhyne.
Joining Tech and the host Samford Bulldogs will be teams from
Austin Peay, Belmont, Birmingham Southern, Eastern Illinois,
Evansville, Jacksonville, Kennesaw State, Montevallo, Murray State,
South Alabama, Troy, Western Kentucky and UAB.
For the Tech men's team, first-year coach Craig King has his team
playing for the first time in three weeks. Tech opened the year
with a third place finish at the Jackson State/Pizza Hut
Invitational before having its second tournament cancelled due to
snow.
King's lineup will include seniors Jared Dunn, Jake Heatherly,
Greyson Painter, Calvin Clark and junior Wes Korth.
The Golden Eagles were scheduded to play in the Grub Mart
Invitational last year, but pulled out of the tournament upon the
death of coach Bobby Nichols.
Results will be available on TTUsports.com.
