NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Junior Wes Korth earned a Top 10 finish and
Tennessee Tech got consistent play throughout the lineup as the
Golden Eagle men's golf team claimed a tie for third place in the
12-team Big Blue Invitational, hosted by Tennessee State
University.
All five players in coach Craig King's lineup finished within seven
strokes of each other, led by Korth's 10th place showing at 216.
Korth (71) and senior Jake Heatherly (70) posted Tech's best rounds
of the 54-hole tournament in Tuesday's final round, and all 15
scores by the Golden Eagle team were between 70 and 76.
Belmont carded a team total of 856 and won the team title by four
shot over Murray State (860), one of seven Ohio Valey Conference
teams in the field. Tech and UT Martin tied for third place at 870
as the Golden Eagles managed a 4-1-1 record against league
rivals.
Evansville (878) was eight shots back to round out the top five.
The remainder of the field included University of the Cumberlands
(884), John A. Logan College (886), Lipscomb (886), SIU
Edwardsville (997), Morehead State (889), Tennessee State (894) and
Eastern Illinois (907).
The tournament also included 12 players competing individually,
making it a field of 72 players.
Korth carded scores of 72 and 73 in Monday's play, then finished
with a 71 for his 216 total and 10th place showing. Heatherly had
rounds of 74 and 73 on Monday, and managed the GOlden Eagles' best
round of 70 on Tuesday, finishing in a tie for 12th place at
217.
One shot back at 218 was senior Greyson Painter (71-73-74) in a tie
for 15th place, while senior Jared Dunn (73-71-76) placed in a tie
for 25th at 220. Sophomore Tyler Cassetty (75-72-76--223) tied for
41st place to complete the Golden Eagle lineup.
Tech also had two players competing individually. Senior Josh Simer
placed in a tie for 31st at 221 (73-76-72), and sophomore Travis
Ramsey was tied for 51st plae at (79-72-77) 228.
The next action for Tech is the Ohio Valley Conference
Championships, hosted by Jacksonville State, April 27-29.
