Golden Eagle men's golf team ties for seventh at APSU event

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. -- Steady improvement by Wes Korth allowed the junior to rise to 17th place overall and finish as Tennessee Tech's top individual as the Golden Eagle men's golf team tied for seventh place in the 54-hole, 17-team F&M Bank Intercollegiate hosted by Austin Peay.

Of the six Ohio Valley Conference teams in the two-day event, Tech trailed two and topped three. Host Austin Peay (832) won the team title, while UT Martin (840 finished fourth. Tech tied for seventh place (883) with Dayton, one shot ahead of the OVC's Eastern Illinois (884) in ninth place and four ahead of Morehead State (887) in a tie for 10th. Tennessee State (890) was 12th.

Korth opened play Monday with a 75, and improved to a 71 in his second round on the first day. On Tuesday, he trimmed another shot from his score to shoot a 70, finishing at 216 eand earning a tie for 17th place among the 93 golfers in the field.

Jared Dunn, who led Tech after the first day with rounds of 71 and 72, shot a closing 76 to finish tied for 27th place at 219. Three shots back, Jake Heatherly (75, 72, 75) was tied for 37th place at 222. Also in Tech's lineup, Josh Simer (81, 74, 75) tied for 71st place at 230 and Blake Garrison (77, 76, 78) tied for 74th place at 231.

Sophomore Travis Ramsey was also in the tournament, competing for Tech as an individual, and finished alongside Garrison in a tie for 74th place (76, 77, 78) at 231.

The APSU event was the final action of the fall season under first-year coach Craig King.
