Moths, Strohschein tabbed OVC Pitcher and Player of the Week

BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – Tennessee Tech outfielder Kevin Strohschein and pitcher Travis Moths swept the Ohio Valley Conference's weekly awards Monday afternoon, with Strohschein earning Player of the Week and Moths taking home Pitcher of the Week honors.

In four wins last week, Strohschein hit .471 (8-for-17) with seven runs, a double, four home runs, 10 RBI, a 1.235 slugging percentage and .500 on-base percentage as Tech extended its winning streak to nine games. He opened the week by going 4-for-6 with a double, two home runs and three runs scored in a 17-0 win at Alabama A&M.

In the second game of the Austin Peay series, the junior hit another home run and drove in three runs before capping the week with a 3-for-5 performance and featured a home run. Strohschein currently ranks first in the OVC in hits (1.87/game), second in batting average (.422), RBI (1.35/game), total bases (3.26/game) and slugging percentage (.735), third in home runs (0.30/game), fifth in doubles (0.39/game), ninth in runs scored (1.0/game).

Moths tossed seven scoreless innings as part of Tech's 4-0 shutout over Austin Peay on Friday. The senior scattered three hits and walked just two while striking out nine batters in picking up his Division I-leading fifth victory of the season. He left the game with a 1-0 lead, Tech scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh and Ethan Roberts picked the final two innings to complete the shutout.

The Golden Eagles are scheduled to return to action in Charleston, Ill. with a three-game OVC series at Eastern Illinois starting Thursday, Mar. 29 at 3 p.m. CT.
