Tennessee Tech baseball team draws MLB interest with Pro Scout Night

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – The Golden Eagle baseball team held its annual Pro Scout Night Thursday evening, hosting a slew of Major League Baseball scouts. Representing 15 of the 30 major league baseball clubs, scouts put the Tech players through a variety of drills during the event.

"Anytime you have pro major league scouts on your campus, it's a good thing," said head coach Matt Bragga. "I remember even when I was a player, those guys were revered by everybody, no matter how good a player you were. And they still are. They make important decisions that impact your future. We respect those guys and our players respect those guys."

The Golden Eagles opened the night with a quick batting practice session, followed by some running drills, throwing drills, fielding drills, and eventually a quick intrasquad scrimmage. Many players impressed during the event, hitting homeruns, making diving catches, and showing all-out effort in drills.

"We just try to tell our guys to relax, have fun, and let the chips fall as they may. Our guys went out and did that last night. They had a lot of fun, the scouts enjoyed themselves. Our guys performed at an extremely high level."

Teams with scouts present at the event included the Cincinnati Reds, Boston Red Sox, Los Angeles Dodgers, St. Louis Cardinals, Chicago Cubs, Miami Marlins, San Francisco Giants, Toronto Blue Jays, Texas Rangers, San Diego Padres, Cleveland Indians, New York Mets, Kansas City Royals, Milwaukee Brewers, and Baltimore Orioles.

"Any time we can have professional baseball clubs make a presence on our campus it makes an impact on our players and helps in recruiting. I think this is the sixth year in a row that we have had guys drafted and we are looking to continue that trend and we believe we have some guys who are going to get an opportunity at the next level."
