Three Golden Eagles named Preseason All-OVC by College Sports Madness

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – Just three weeks until Opening Day of the 2013 Tennessee Tech baseball season, three members of the Golden Eagle squad have earned preseason all-OVC honors from College Sports Madness.

Earning first-team accolades was junior first baseman Zach Stephens. An all-OVC second-team selection last season, Stephens has already garnered third-team All-America honors from the National Collegiate Baseball Writer's Association (NCBWA) this preseason. After hammering 18 home runs in the 2012 season, he earned an invitation and was a particpant in the TB Ameritrade College Home Run Derby last spring in Omaha.

Gathering second-team honors were seniors Michael Morris and Austin Wulf.

An infielder who is expected to spend much of the 2013 campaign at the hot corner, Morris clubbed a .328 batting average in 2012, second on the team to Stephens. He ranked third on the club with 64 hits and 29 RBI. His 15 doubles led the Golden Eagles.

One of just four position players to start every game last season, Wulf put together a solid year as Tech's leadoff man, batting .314 and ranking second on the team in hits with 69. He led the Golden Eagle squad in stolen bases with nine and carried an impressive .420 on-base percentage throughout the season.

The Golden Eagle baseball team will open its 2013 season on Friday, Feb. 15, with the first of a three-game series in which it hosts Big Ten member Illinois.
