RICHMOND, Ky. – The long ball, usually a great ally of the Tennessee Tech baseball team (7-6), took a different side Saturday afternoon as the Eastern Kentucky Colonels (4-6) used four home runs to take down the Golden Eagles, 18-7 in Richmond.

Moon shots seemed to be the theme of the day as six different players, two for Tech and four for EKU, took turns driving taters over the outfield fence.

Matt Phipps and Austin Grisham led the attack for the Colonels, both tallying four-baggers on their way to a combined five hits and seven RBI. Two other Eastern Kentucky batters, Steve Ferraro and John Wilson, also totaled seven RBI between the pair. Smacking the home runs for the Colonels were Phipps, Grisham, Ferraro, and Alex Hughes.

The Golden Eagles tallied two long balls in the game as power hitters Zach Stephens and Brandon Thomasson both launched homers. Stephens finished the contest three-for-four with two RBI and two runs scored while Thomasson collected two hits in four at-bats with two RBI and two runs scored. Thomasson's other hit of the game was a lead-off double in the top of the second inning.

Four Tech pitchers combined for eight strikeouts in the contest compared to just one K for the EKU pitching staff.

The three-game series will conclude on Sunday at noon CST with a contest in Richmond. Tech will look to win its fourth series of the season with a victory over the Colonels.
