COOKEVILLE, Tenn. - The 2013 Ohio Valley Conference baseball slate kicks off this weekend as Tennessee Tech opens its league schedule Friday with a three-game series at Eastern Kentucky.

The Colonels are 3-5 in the 2013 campaign, picking up wins over Charleston Southern, Army, and Winthrop. EKU has had four games cancelled due to poor weather and field conditions and has played just once since Feb. 27, falling to West Virginia 2-1 on Tuesday.
Sean Hagen leads the Colonel offensive attack this season, owning a .391 average in six starts. Also playing well for EKU has been Bryan Soloman. He has driven in seven runs on 11 hits this season for a .314 average.
Shane Grimm leads the EKU starters, pitching with a 5.00 ERA and seven strikeouts. The Colonels as a team own a 6.51 ERA with 38 Ks in 65.0 innings pitched.
CATCHING UP WITH TECH
The Golden Eagles will enter OVC play with a solid 6-5 record, falling to Big Ten opponent Michigan State on Wednesday in a tight, 5-3 contest. Tech boasts series wins over three opponents, winning two games each against Illinois, Niagara, and Bowling Green.
Five Golden Eagle batters own averages of .300 or better, with Austin Wulf, James Abraham, and Zach Zarzour all batting .357. Each player has collected 15 hits this season, combining for 18 RBI, seven extra base hits, nine stolen bases.
Brandon Thomasson, the team's designated hitter, has been on a tear this season, ripping eight extra base hits to a tune of 14 RBI and a .310 average. He leads the team and OVC with four home runs and has also been walked seven times.
The Tech pitching staff has been impressive in the strikeout department, setting down 93 batters in just 98 innings. Six different pitchers own wins for the Golden Eagles, spreading around the success of the team.
The first game of the series is slated for a 1 p.m CST first pitch on Friday, March 8 in Richmond, Ky. Game two will begin at 1 p.m. on Saturday with game three wrapping up the series with a noon start time on Sunday.
