Golden Eagles women's golf team collects sixth-place finish at NKU Fall Classic

BATAVIA, Ohio – The Tennessee Tech women's golf team put the finishing touches on its first tournament of the 2017-18 campaign Tuesday afternoon, overcoming a brief delay due to rain to improve its ranking in the final standings of the NKU Fall Classic hosted by Northern Kentucky.

The Golden Eagles jumped up a spot to finish sixth overall in a field of 14 teams competing at Elks Run Golf Club, carding a final round of 316 for a final total of 949 for the event. UNC Asheville took home the team title, finishing at 914 over the 54 holes and holding off a surging Oakland squad at the end. Dayton's Ellie Cronin claimed individual medalist honors after posting a 73-72-77=222.

Making a surge of her own up the leaderboard, Tech's Allyson Dunn tallied a top-10 finish by firing a 75 in the final round of action. The senior finished ninth overall among the 82 participants with an overall score of 230. She tied for the tournament lead in both birdies (10) and par-3 scoring (even).

Sophomore Shelby Johnson maintained her level of play with a third-round mark of 78. Combined with rounds of 78 and 79 on Monday, the youngster finished with a 235 and tied for 21st overall. Junior Hollee Sadler tied for 30th overall after carding a 78-80-81=239.

Shaving a stroke off her score for the second straight round was sophomore Arianna Clemmer, who posted an 84-83-82=249 in her first even of the new season. Junior Lindsay Miller rounded out the Tech participants, completing the day with an 88 for a final score of 254.

The Golden Eagles will take a brief break from action before returning to the links for the Chris Banister Fall Classic Sunday, Sept. 24 to Tuesday, Sept. 26. Hosted by Ohio Valley Conference rival Jacksonville State, Tech will head south to Gadsden, Ala. For Silver Lakes Golf Course, part of the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail.
