Tech women's golf team fifth after first round of OVC Championships

MUSCLE SHOALS, Ala. – The Tennessee Tech women's golf team set itself up nicely after round one of the Ohio Valley Conference Championships Monday afternoon, posting a 313 to sit fifth among the nine teams in competition in Muscle Shoals, Ala.

Competing at The Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail at The Shoals, the Golden Eagles finished day one just six strokes behind the day's leader, Murray State. Individually, the Racers' Lucila Puente Rodriguez led the field of 45 golfers with an even-par 72.

Senior Allyson Dunn and freshman Kate Mashburn tied for the lead on the Tech squad, each posting 2-over 74s to tie for fourth place overall. Dunn tied for the tournament lead in par-5 scoring at 1-under and also ranked among the leaders in total pars for the first round, totaling 12 overall.

Participating in her first postseason, Mashburn turned in her best round in the purple and gold to date, leading the field in par-3 scoring (-1) and in total birdies (5). She also ranked second in par-4 scoring with a mark of 1-over.

Junior Lindsay miller tied for 24th after turning in an 81 on the day, posting 12 holes of even-par golf. Next among the Tech finishers was fellow junior Hollee Sadler. The carded an 84 to tie for 30th in the field.

Rounding out the Golden Eagle starting lineup was sophomore Shelby Johnson. The youngster tied for 34th after posting an 85.

The OVC Championships will continue with 18 holes of second round action on Tuesday, beginning with 8 a.m. CT tee times. The Golden Eagles will kick off their action starting at 8:50 a.m.
