SEVIERVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee Tech women's golf team stayed within fighting distance at the Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate Monday afternoon, posting a 308 in the second round of competition at Sevierville Golf Club on the Highlands Course.
The Golden Eagles shaved a stroke off of Sunday's first-round score, totaling a 617 through 36 holes of play to rank fourth among the nine team in participation in Tech's annual event. Fellow Ohio Valley Conference member Jacksonville State held on to its lead built on day one, sitting at 605 overall, just two strokes above Marshall.
Senior Allyson Dunn rounded out her second day of play in fourth place among the field of 55 golfers, combining her first-round 70 with a 77 in round two for a 147. The Gamecocks' Valentina Giraldo extended her individual lead, posting a 72 to move to a total of 140.
Sophomore Shelby Johnson trimmed two shots from her first round finish of 78, turning in a 76 to sit in a tie for 17th with a 154. Junior Hollee Sadler also enjoyed an improved showing on the links on Monday, improving from a first-round 81 to a 76 on day two. Her score of 157 ranked her 25th overall.
Freshman Kate Mashburn stayed consistent on the scoreboard, carding her second straight 80 to finish the day tied for 31st with 160. Rounding out the Tech lineup was junior Lindsay Miller, whose 83-79=162 through 36 holes tied her for 35th.
Competing as individuals for the Golden Eagles in the event were freshmen Isabel York and Hannah Bratton. After completing her second round, York tied for 35th with a two-day total of 162. Bratton ranked at 49th with a composite score of 171.
The third and final round of the sixth annual Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate is set to get underway with a shotgun start at 7:30 a.m. CT on the Highlands Course of Sevierville Golf Club.
