Clemmer paces second-place Golden Eagles on day one of Chris Banister Fall Classic

GADSDEN, Ala. – The Tennessee Tech women's golf team concluded its first round of action at the Chris Banister Golf Classic in strong position as well with room to work Sunday afternoon, tying for second place among the eight schools and nine teams participating at Silver Lakes Golf Course.

The Golden Eagles turned in a first-round 304, finishing in a tie with Alabama State for second place overall at 16-over par. Ohio Valley Conference rival Murray State blitzed the field on its way to a first-place ranking on day one, firing a 287 for a 17-stroke lead with two rounds to play. Alabama State's Chanelle Avaricio led the 49-player field on the first day of play with a 7-under 65.

Leading the way for the Golden Eagles was sophomore Arianna Clemmer. The youngster posted a 2-over 74 behind steady play, ranking second among the field in total pars with 12. She heads into day two tied for seventh overall.

Right behind Clemmer, senior Allyson Dunn posted a 3-over 75 to tie for 10th overall and contribute to the good showing for the Golden Eagles. Junior Hollee Sadler finished next among the Tech participants, turning in a 77 to tie for 17th among the field.

Sophomore Shelby Johnson rounded out the scoring for Tech on day one, carding a 78 to tie for 24th. Making her collegiate debut, true freshman Kate Mashburn tied for 32nd on day one after completing her first round as a Golden Eagle with an 81.

Also tied for 32nd was Tech junior Lindsay Miller, who notched an 81 while competing as an individual.

The Golden Eagles are slated to kick off the second day of play with tee times beginning at 7:30 a.m. CT.
