Golden Eagles in third after first round of Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate

SEVIERVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee Tech women's golf team kicked off the sixth annual Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate with a solid first-round showing Sunday afternoon, rounding out the day in third place among the nine-team field.

The Golden Eagles posted a 309 for the day, sitting just three strokes back of second-place Marshall and 10 strokes behind the tournament's Day One leader, Jacksonville State. The Gamecocks led all teams with a 299 on the Highlands Course of Sevierville Golf Club.

Senior Allyson Dunn fired a 1-under 70 to lead the way for the Golden Eagles, ranking second overall among the event's 55 participants. The Tech veteran carded one of just two eagles turned in by the field in round one and also posted three birdies. She ranked second for par-five scoring with a mark of 2-under.

Next among Tech's finishers on the day was sophomore Shelby Johnson, who tallied a first-round 78 to tie for 17th overall. True freshman Hannah Bratton concluded play with an 80, tying for 28th in the standings.

Tying for 32nd was junior Hollee Sadler, who ranked fourth in the Golden Eagle lineup with an 81. Rounding out Tech's starting five for the first day of action was fellow junior Lindsay Miller. She shot an 83 to tie for 39th.

Competing as individuals for the Golden Eagles were freshmen Isabel York and Hanna Bratton. Earning a share of 28th overall was York, who tallied an 80. Bratton turned in an 84 to tie for 43rd.

Round two of the Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate is set for a 7:30 CT shotgun start on Monday.
