Volleyball hosts hitting clinic Saturday


COOKEVILLE, Tenn. -- Tennessee Tech volleyball coach John Blair and the Golden Eagles will host their third and final instructional clinic Saturday in Eblen Center. After holding clinics last week for setting and defense, this final clinic will focus on hitters and developing an attack.

Pre-registration is available through Friday afternoon, and sign-ups will begin Saturday at 8:30 a.m. The clinic starts at 9 a.m.

For serious players ages 13-18, the workshops are designed to give participants a concentrated dose of the fundamentals in a particular aspects of a volleyball match.

Pre-registration cost is $75 for each clinic, while the cost is $85 if purchased on the day of the workshop. For players who participated last week, attendees of two workshops receive a $10 discount and participants in all three workshops receive a $25 discount.

Blair heads into his 10th season at the helm of the TTU volleyball program. In 2008, he was named the Ohio Valley Conference Coach of the Year after guiding the Golden Eagles to an OVC championship and a berth in the NCAA Tournament. He also coached at the University of Mississippi for 16 seasons and served as an assistant coach at Tennessee.

A native of Knoxville, Tenn., Blair played volleyball at Tennessee and competed in the World University Games and was a member of the United States team training for the 1974 Pan Am Games.
