Morehead State sweeps the Golden Eagle volleyball team, 3-0

MOREHEAD, Ky. -- Morehead State, the best team in the Ohio Valley Conference, defeated the Tech Volleyball team in Morehead, Ky. Friday night in three sets.

Set scores for Morehead State were 25-19, 25-15 and 25-18.

The Golden Eagles were held to 24 total kills in the entire match, but held all but one attacker on one of the best offenses in the conference to single digit kills . Audrey Lewis had a team high seven kills on 16 attempts in a flawless performance from Tech. Fellow outside hitter Ellen Conti added five kills to the Golden Eagle attack with Madison Keyes and Kelsey Gray each chipping in with three.

Defense was again the name of Tech's game, as the best blocking team in the conference knocked down five blocks, with the 14th best blocker in the country, Gray, having a hand in all seven blocks. One block in particular forced a Morehead State timeout in the third set, as the power behind Gray's block caused a nose bleed.

Leading the backcourt was sophomore Courtney smith with 12 digs and a 1.000 serve receive reception percentage, a career best perfromance. Conti also sprawled for nine of the team's 50 digs, marking the eighth time the Golden Eagles have collected 50+ digs this season.

Madison Comperry and Ashleigh Hancock dished out 11 and 10 assists respectively, and Hacock added one service ace.

The Golden Eagles will face Eastern Kentucky Saturday afternoon in Richmond, Ky. The match is slated for 4 p.m.
