COOKEVILLE, Tenn. -- It took five tough sets to ground the Golden Eagles, but Belmont came out on top in a hard-fought battle. The Tech volleyball team was defeated by Belmont on their home court Friday night, 3-2. 

Set scores for Belmont were 16-25, 25-14, 18-25, 25-19 and 15-6. 

The Golden Eagles headed into the fourth set with a 2-1 advantage for the first time in the 2012 season, but in true comeback fashion the Bruins developed a swing in momentum and took the fourth and fifth sets to win the match. 

Tech was led by three double-double performances from Kelsey Gray, Ellen Conti and Madison Comperry. Gray had 11 kills and 10 blocks on the night, in her third double-double of her career. Conti had 10 terminations and 17 digs, while Comperry added 14 digs and 24 assists.

Four other Golden Eagle hitters, Natalie Penrod, Madison Keyes, Elise Robertson and Cody Dodd, chipped in three kills, spreading the offense to both pins. Robertson and Conti knocked down five blocks respectively. with Dodd and Keyes adding three blocks of their own.

Ashleigh Hancock dished out 10 assists of her own and Courtney Smith commanded the back court  with a match high 25 digs.

Tech took sets one and two in commanding fashion. The Golden Eagles had an attack percentage of .240 in set one, and a near flawless performance in set three. The Golden Eagles went 11 for 33 in the third set with just one error, swinging .303, a season high.

The fourth set seemed to swing the momentum in Belmont's favor, as the Golden Eagles were held to a 54 side-out percentage, and a meager .098 attack percentage. The Bruins jumped to a 10-3 lead in the fifth set sealing the match in their favor, 3-2.

Tech volleyball returns to action Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. The Golden Eagles will face Tennessee State for a second time this season. It will be the last home game for the Golden Eagles until November 2.
