COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – Just one week into the 2012 season, the
Tennessee Tech soccer team has already made headlines. Senior
forward Andrea
Meloff was named Tuesday as the adidas® OVC Offensive
Player of the Week.
The award comes as no surprise as Meloff helped lead Tech to a 2-0 victory on Sunday over Chattanooga. Just three minutes into the game, Meloff found the back of the net to give the Golden Eagles their first win of the season. She also added an assist later in the match and owns an .800 shots-on-goal percentage this season.
Meloff's three points is tied for the OVC lead and her goal on Sunday, the 16th of her career, moved her into sole possession of fifth on the TTU all-time list for career goals. She also climbed to seventh all-time in career points with 37.
While it was the second time Meloff has received the award, it was the first time anyone received the league honor on the offensive side of the ball since head coach Daniel Brizard took the helm. Brizard has coached three OVC Defensive Players of the Week and one OVC Goalkeeper of the Week. Meloff last received the honor during the week of November 3, 2009, her freshman year.
Also receiving votes in their respective categories for the week were senior defender Leigh Heffner and freshman goalkeeper Jordan Brown.

Lauren Fant, D, 5'5, R-Jr., Rochester Hills, Mich. - Eastern Kentucky
Fant went the distance on EKU's backline in both of the Colonel wins last weekend. On Friday, she came forward in the 35th minutes to score the game-winner against UNC Asheville, heading into a cross off a corner kick from Emily D'Italia to give EKU a 2-1 advantage. On Sunday, she anchored a defense that earned its first shutout of the season, playing all 92 minutes of a 1-0 overtime win over Robert Morris.

Goalkeeper
Erika Wolfer, GK, 5'4, Fr., Cincinnati, Ohio - Eastern Kentucky
Wolfer posted her first shutout in her first weekend as a collegiate goalkeeper, as she played all 92 minutes of EKU's 1-0 overtime win over Robert Morris on Sunday. She made five saves and allowed just one goal as the Colonels topped UNC Asheville on Friday. She recorded a 0.49 goals-against average for the weekend.
