Austin Peay dismisses Golden Eagles 2-0 under the lights

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee Tech soccer team couldn't duplicate its stellar first half performance Friday night, when it blanked one of the most potent offenses in the Ohio Valley Conference in Austin Peay. The Governors bounced back in the second half with two goals to pull off the home victory under the lights.

Austin Peay was able to exact some revenge after Tech defeated them 1-0 in overtime last season. Tatiana Ariza, the OVC leader in both goals and assists, added two more goals to her total for the season to give the Governors a 2-0 win.

Freshman goalkeeper Jordan Brown kept up her stellar season, making 12 saves in the match to bring her season total to 109. She sits second in the OVC in saves and first in saves per game.

The Golden Eagles recorded seven shots on goal, however, they were unable to get the ball into the net against Peay's Haylee Shoaff. Sophomore forward Kelsey McGohan recorded a career-high three shots on goal in the match, while junior Ellie Iaciofano and seniors Jacquie Watkins, Kerri Reid, and Sarah Gawthrop all recorded shots on goal as well.

Sophomore defender Katie Phillips again played all 90 minutes for the Golden Eagles and has played every singe minute of this season. Only Brown has done the same for Tech.

The Golden Eagles will return to action on Sunday, Oct. 21 when they take on Murray State at 1 p.m. CT in Murray, Ky.
