Colonels stop Golden Eagle attack, win 2-0 in OVC battle

RICHMOND, Ky. – The Tennessee Tech soccer team fought a hard battle Sunday afternoon, forcing the second place Colonels of EKU to bring everything they had into play. The Golden Eagle attack turned on the pressure, but Eastern Kentucky walked away with a 2-0 OVC win.

The Colonels started things in this one, scoring in the 18th minute on a rebound off a brilliant Jordan Brown save. They added an insurance goal late to wrap up their third Ohio Valley Conference victory.

The Golden Eagles attacked strong throughout the game, forcing the EKU goalkeeper and defense to come up big in several instances. The Colonels did just that and also put on an attack of their own, taking 19 shots and putting 11 on goal. Tech took just nine shots, but over half were on goal.

Brown held her own, collecting nine stops in the match and keeping the high powered EKU attack off the scoreboard following the first goal until the 83rd minute. Brown ranks first in the OVC in saves with 90 as well as saves per game with 6.92 per contest. She already ranks ninth on the Tennessee Tech all-time list for career saves and sixth in shutout victories with three.

Tech will return to action on Sunday, Oct. 14 when they play Belmont for the first time as an OVC opponent. The Golden Eagles will host the Bruins on the Tech Soccer Field at 2 p.m. CT and try to even its OVC record from 2-3-0 to 3-3-0 with a win.
