SEMO ends playoff hopes for Golden Eagles in 5-1 win


COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee Tech soccer team was mathematically eliminated from earning a playoff spot Friday afternoon, losing to Southeast Missouri 5-1 in its final home match of the season.

The Tech defense held the Redhawk attack to just one goal in the first 45 minutes of the contest on Friday afternoon. The Redhawks came out firing on all cylinders in the second half, though, scoring four goals in the second half to end the Golden Eagles' post season hopes.

Senior midfielder Jacquie Watkins scored the lone goal for the Golden Eagles, netting one in the 65th minute to bring Tech within two scores. Senior midfielder Kris Cambron earned her fourth assist of the season on the goal. The goal was the first of the year for Watkins and the fourth of her career.

SEMO would answer two minutes later and then once more with just over one minute left in the match.

The Golden Eagles will wrap up the regular season on Sunday when they travel to Martin, Tenn. to take on the Skyhawks of UT Martin in a 2 p.m. tilt. The Skyhawks rank first in the OVC with 6-1-1 mark heading into today's match against Jacksonville State.
