Reed nets OVC Defender of the Week honors

Senior has played every minute of Tech's season

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. — Senior defender Lindsey Reed became the second Tennessee Tech soccer player in as many weeks to earn Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week honors on Tuesday.

Reed was named the league’s Defensive Player of the Week for her role in the Golden Eagles’ showing at the Adidas Gamecock Soccer Classic over the weekend.

Reed, her team’s only senior, anchored the defense on a weekend in which the unit gave up just one goal in 200 minutes of soccer against strong WAC competition Louisiana Tech (4-1-2) and New Mexico State (4-2).

She led a shutout of Louisiana Tech on Friday over 110 minutes of soccer and helped keep NMSU in check after an early goal on Sunday. Under her leadership, TTU held Louisiana Tech to just three shots on goal while limiting New Mexico State to six.

Reed played all 200 minutes of action on the weekend and has played every minute in each of Tech’s six games this season.

“Lindsey has worked really hard, and she’s playing outstanding,” head coach Daniel Brizard said. “She’s our captain, and she is filling that role perfectly. She has been a warrior on the field for us and someone who really sets the tone for our team.”

The Golden Eagles return to action this weekend, traveling to Longwood for a 6 p.m. start Friday before playing at Radford at 1 p.m. Sunday.
